At Morningside State School, we provide a positive learning environment for a diverse range of learning styles and individual needs. We believe education is a life-long process and students need to be empowered to take ownership of their own learning and behaviour. Students, teachers, parents, caregivers and community members are all active participants in our school.

Each week, students are engaged with short social skill lessons that are developed based on our classroom and playground data. The focus topics for these lessons are detailed in our fortnightly school newsletter.
GOTCHA reward system
As part of the PBL process, we implement a school wide behaviour reward system. The attached matrix outlines the behavioural expectation for all environments across the school.
As a school it is our job to explicitly teach and reinforce our RISE positive behaviours across the school. The implementation of a Gotcha reward system is a way for us to do this with consistency and a shared language. The consistent language we use as a school in discussing behaviour is the following:
R = Respect
I= Inspire
S = Support
E = Effort
How does our GOTCHA reward system work?
Gotcha tickets are distributed to all staff members to be used on playground duty. In the classroom, the student
- completes the Gotcha
- puts in the Gotcha Box
- Gotcha is recorded on Gotcha Card.
Students have a Gotcha Card that has 20 RISE Logos. These are stamped, stickered, hole punched or signed by staff. Once the Gotcha Card is complete, a postcard is sent home. The Postcard is entered on One School as a Positive Behaviour Record.
Each class has a Gotcha box for playground Gotchas. These Gotchas are collected during middle session on Friday. The Gotchas are drawn in the presence of Staff at First Break as a way to celebrate positive behaviour as a whole school. The students whose names are drawn will achieve a RISE prize from the school prize box.
- RISE Certificates are presented on assembly. Prior to Monday’s Assembly, parents are notified by their child's teacher that they will be receiving the RISE Certificate so they can attend. RISE Certificates are done on One School.
Other reward systems
- R.I.S.E. Medal- one student per class per year exemplifying R.I.S.E. behaviours
- Principal’s High Tea Award- one student (and their family) per class per semester exemplifying R.I.S.E. behaviours
- R.I.S.E. Letter- one student per class per term exemplifying R.I.S.E. behaviours
- Postcards- Students achieve their R.I.S.E. postcard after receiving 20 Gotchas.
